Hello,

I've been a member for a few years, but never active.  My situation has recently changed and I'd like to start flying.  I am current with the AMA through 2010 (#646234).  I just purchased an electric T-28 Trojan park flier from Hobby Hangar.  I have exercised the controls, but not attempted flight.  I am a fearless retired Navy pilot, but not so bold as to attempt a solo without instruction.  I have also not been to your new field.

I am recently retired so I'm available most of the time.  How do I setup an introduction to your procedures and some instruction?

Eric,
I have heard the T-28 is a good plane, but I think you are wise to not fly for the first few times without instruction.  I would recommend these items for setup:

I always like to setup my electrics with PowerPole connectors.  If you take your plane and battery to Hobby Hangar, then Tyler can attach a PowerPole connector to your ESC and to your battery.  You may also want and extra battery, and a good charger for Lipos.  I recommend the Thunder Power 1010C charger and a balancer.  Its expensive, but worth it.

Second, the G4.5 simulator is a great investment.  It has instructions on it, and you can really enhance your flying skills without crashing real planes. And it is fun.

As for training, starting next weekend, I am going to try to get to the field each Saturday morning and fly from 9:00 to about 11:00.  I would be happy to train you, and I can bring my batteries for you to use.  I have four batteries for the T-28 (with PowerPole connectors).  When the Horne property opens, I will be flying there on the designated days, and I love to help folks learn to fly.  Stay tuned for the announced schedule on the new field.

You will be doing touch-and-gos in no time!

Tony,
Thanks for your quick reply.  I wasn't familiar enough with the way the web site worked and just saw your answer to me.  I will go back to Hobby Hangar this week for the PowerPole and will be at the field about 9 next Saturday if the weather looks good.

I did get the G4.5 simulator a few years ago when I first joined the club and used it a lot.  Then I got a new computer and now I need to track down my program disc.  I have the Interlink Controller.  I'm sure I'll find the disc because I save everything...of course that could be my problem.

Thanks again for the response and the advice.  I'll see you soon.  Oh...do I need anything to get through the gate at the field?

Send me an email a couple of days before Saturday, May 30 to make sure the weather is good, and I will be there.  9:00 is a good start time to meet me at the gate.  I will bring a few planes, and my 3S 2100 batteries.
