I look forward to seeing this one in the air. Make sure you get some help on the first time flight. This one has a little higher wing loading and is fast fast fast. I will be at Poplar Ford Oct 23 and 24 if weather holds.

I usually don't fly until the weather is above 40 deg. My fingers freeze, and the batteries are too cold. It may be March until you see consistent attendance at the field.
I would love to see that F-16 fly! How does it do on grass, or is it a hand launch?

AKC, If you have NEVER flown before, please don't start with your 50 size P-40. You are doing the right thing to get some sim time, but I recommend getting a trainer, and starting there. The P-40 is a low-wing warbird, and is an intermediate level plane. I would hate to have your first experience in the hobby to be a crash or frustrating flight that you feel is too hard.
Meet us at the field this spring and get some trainer time. I am an electric guy and can get you some time on a 48" Hobbyzone Super Cub. Great flying little plane. We also have some members that will buddy box you on a gas trainer. Bring your P-40 and we will check it out, but keep it in the hangar for awhile.
Also, what is your simulator? If it is Realflight, I would be happy to customize a model for you so you can fly your P-40 on the sim. I need the AUW (weight) and CG location. The CG (balance point) is something you should always check before a first-time flight.
This winter will give you an opportunity to practice on the sim while the weather warms up.
Keep us posted, as I would love to see your P-40 fly at the field this summer!

Send me an email a couple of days before Saturday, May 30 to make sure the weather is good, and I will be there. 9:00 is a good start time to meet me at the gate. I will bring a few planes, and my 3S 2100 batteries.

Eric, I have heard the T-28 is a good plane, but I think you are wise to not fly for the first few times without instruction. I would recommend these items for setup:
I always like to setup my electrics with PowerPole connectors. If you take your plane and battery to Hobby Hangar, then Tyler can attach a PowerPole connector to your ESC and to your battery. You may also want and extra battery, and a good charger for Lipos. I recommend the Thunder Power 1010C charger and a balancer. Its expensive, but worth it.
Second, the G4.5 simulator is a great investment. It has instructions on it, and you can really enhance your flying skills without crashing real planes. And it is fun.
As for training, starting next weekend, I am going to try to get to the field each Saturday morning and fly from 9:00 to about 11:00. I would be happy to train you, and I can bring my batteries for you to use. I have four batteries for the T-28 (with PowerPole connectors). When the Horne property opens, I will be flying there on the designated days, and I love to help folks learn to fly. Stay tuned for the announced schedule on the new field.
You will be doing touch-and-gos in no time! --Tony

Tom, If you bring your Tx and Rx batteries to the April tour/meeting, I would be happy to cycle them for you and see if they can still hold a charge. --Tony

Tom, Welcome aboard! We can get you started right. We will be starting Saturday training soon, or you can always just coordinate with a member to meet you at the field. I am not a gasser, otherwise I would volunteer to see you at the field.
In a couple of weeks there should be more flying activity. If you don't get "scheduled" with a member by the end of April to help, just post a note. I will also bring up training at the April meeting at the Fairfax Fire Dept. If you want to come, you could bring your plane. We would be happy to give it a good look over. Happy Landings, --Tony
