Hello - at this time there is not but this is something the board has been working to develop. Since there isn't an official qual guide, I believe an informal approach would be adequate where you demonstrate basic hovering pointing in and away, and then straight level flight parallel with the runway all while following the proper safety procedures (safe handling of power system; announcing take-off, landing, on-field, etc).

ha, yeah, we defenetly don't want to give Bob an advantage! Ken sent the email below to the entire club this morning with an update on the battery. Bottom line, looks like the Turnigy packs they were hoping to get are not in stock and the nano's are too long, but a Gens Ace 1550 mAh battery at $13.95 looks promising. I did some research on Gens Ace and all the reviews are very favorable so I think they found a really good option. The balance tabs on Gens Ace are JST-XH style, which is the same as Turnigy, so they will fit my charger's balance boards. Steve email from Ken on 30 June: Racers Sorry for the delay in the battery buy but we ran into some problems. Bob and I had initiallty thought we could use a battery costing about $9, however, they are out of stock and have been for some time. I've been monitoring the HobbyKing And HobbyPartZ sites to no avail. Currently two batteries in stock are a Gens Ace 1550MA, 25C for $13.96 (HobbyPartZ) and a Rino 1550MAH, 25C for $15.95 (Hobby King/International warehouse). Another problem surfaced when we looked at the length of the battery. The battery that comes with the jet is 84mm in length. The Gens Ace is 92mmand the Rino 91mm. Many of the other batteries are 110 to 120mm in length. I have room in by setup (MiG-15) for up to 110mm. Bob is not sure he can go beyond 90 or so (F-86 jet). Everyone need to check their setup for the length they can use. Obviously, a longer battery willl affect the CG. Most of the 1800mah batteries are 120mm in length. Way ahead: Everyone should check their setup to ensure a 92mm battery will fit. E-mail me (rcflyer132@aol.com) with your order for the Gen Ace. I will make the bulk order. If your happy with the orders I already have, please let me know that. The 9 July date is probably not feasiable at this time. I suggest 13 August as the first race. It's after the NATS (several racers are going to that) and the end of July is busy with the LCAA electric fly-in and guys preparing for the NATS(Aug 2-6th).

From the June meeting minutes: "Ken and Bob B have done some battery research and are recommending the use of 1800mAh/25C batteries and recommend each participant have 4 packs. They are going to do a bulk buy for those interested at $8.95 per battery."
The minutes say "recommending", but I thought this was presented as an upper limit, although I'm not sure if 25C is the max discharge or continuous discharge rate. I read online that the stock ESC is the weak link in the power system, so we need to be careful to not burn them out by pulling too much current.
Doug - I'm not sure what all planes were considered but these were the ones selected. I personally was hoping to have an excuse to buy a cheap foam WWII prop plane for pylon racing, but I have to admit that I've been having a lot of fun with my $90 Mig (it was on sale). These ducted fan jetes could easily be painted too.

I'll be bringing equipment to crimp 15, 30, and 45 Amp Anderson Power Poles at our next meeting, so if you would like to have one of these great connectors connected to your battery, ESC, or charger, please bring it to the meeting and I'll hook you up.
Cost is $2 for the 15 and 30 Amp connectors (usually 12 gauge and smaller wire) and $2.50 for the 40 Amp connectors (10 gauge).
